  The atmosphere is electrifying. It’s unlike any club I’ve ever been to. Hell, it’s unlike any place I’ve ever been too. Men and women, covered in piercings – on their eyebrows, their tongues, their nipples. People are wearing body paint instead of clothing. Here are fire eaters, jugglers, burlesque performers everywhere.

  And in the center of the room – there he is. I can tell at once. We share a certain resemblance. He has something of the Tannenbaum face, the Tannenbaum eyes I have learned to recognize as my own. This lean, mean, machine man – covered in tattoos and piercings, naked except for a tight set of skimpy trunks that reveals an enormous bulge.

  “Tonight!” cries the announcer. “The Bringer of Pain against He-Man.”

  He-Man is twice Tommy’s size – an enormous, hairy brute of a man. But Tommy just rolls his eyes and shoots his fans a cocky grin. This man hasn’t a doubt in the world that he’s winning.

  “Come on, mateys!” Tommy cries. “Make it a little difficult for me, won’t ‘cha?”

  But the second the bell rings, Tommy’s got the guy in a headlock, then knocked him out cold. “Buy drinks, loves!” he calls in a rich Cockney accent. “Tip your waitresses.”

  “Excuse me…” Terrence comes up to him after.

  “What the ‘ell do you want?”

  “I’m Terrence Blue.”

  “I don’t give a shit. What do you want?”

  “I’m Clarence Blue’s son. And this is my fiancée, Staci Tannenbaum. Of Tannenbaum Enterprises.”

  “What, you think I’m impressed? Stand in the queue like everyone else, you tossers.”

  “We’ve come to speak to you.”

  “About?” He looks annoyed. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, mate, but I’m a bit busy over here…”

  “I’m here about your father.” I break in.

  “Sure you are. Look, I don’t even know who the fuck my father is, so…”

  “But we do.” I say.

  This stops him short.

  “What?”

  “Have you ever heard of Gloria Tannenbaum?”

  “The crazy bitch who ran that seedy hedge fund empire? Of course.”

  “She’s your mother, Tommy.”

  Tommy bursts out laughing. “Sure she is. Nice joke. And your mother’s a whore too, I bet.”

  “Gloria Tannenbaum is my grandmother,” I say. “I just found out myself. And I’ve been looking for you. To give you this.”

  I slide over the birth certificate Skyla found.

  “Mother: Gloria Tannenbaum. Well, blimey!”

  Then he sees the name written under Father.

  His mouth drops open.

  “You have got to be fucking kidding me.”

  “I wish we were,” Terrence says. “But mate, first lesson of this world we’re about to introduce you to. Nothing is too far-fetched to believe.”

  “Welcome to the family, Tommy,” I say.
