Chapter 1
Lux felt a hot and dry breath on her cheek, a heated breath that competed with the burning heat that surrounded her as she was pulled deeper and deeper into the depths of the portal.
The breath was Romeo’s and for a startled moment, Lux tried to collect her thoughts as she looked up at his hard face. How had she ended up in his arms diving down into the portal?
Looking over his shoulder, she saw the other beautiful beings, many beings she’d come to know as students at the Academy. Many of them were students she’d liked and had spent a bit of time with.
For a weak moment, she questioned her judgement. How could she not have seen what was right under her nose? Romeo, a succubus. A succubus who had seduced her again and again and again.
She looked at him, into his eyes, the eyes that had seen her in all her nude glory, in all her enraptured passions. The eyes that had pulled her in, drawn her into his web, into his lies, into a false sense of security.
Her heart pounded as they fall deep into the bowels of hell and she wanted to fight him, but felt weaker and weaker as her heart broke.
She’d naively allowed herself to fall for him. Damn, she had fallen hard for him. And now…
Anger surged up, replacing the defeated sense of having been duped by him. She couldn’t let him win.
She would never allow him to win.
Romeo’s eyes widened as he looked down at her, and a strange warm light reflected on his face. It took Lux a moment to realize the warm light was coming from her. She was glowing and the tight hold Romeo had on her slackened.
“Let me go,” she shouted as she pushed away from him.
Confusion played in his eyes as he held her, resuming his tight hold of her, though clearly unsure what to do with her.
“Let go!” she screamed, and shoved Romeo away, falling out of his arms.
“Get her!” he shouted as he tried to regain his composure.
Lux easily fought off the first three beautiful beings who charged her, tossing them aside like ragdolls. For a moment she was caught off guard by her own strength, surprised by the ease with which she fought off her opponents, but as they continued to come to her, charge at her, her fighting abilities seemed to get better.
As the Thompson Twins came at her, she glared at them.
“I’ve been waiting an awfully long time to rip your head off,” Hilda said.
“Not before I do,” the other twin said.
Lux easily darted out of the way, her motions fast but precise while the twins zoomed past her.
“Get her!” Romeo called out again.
The beautiful blonds came at Lux again, bloodlust clouding their mesmerizing blue eyes. Lux grabbed them both by the collar and threw them to the jagged rocky wall.
Just when Lux thought she couldn’t get any stronger or faster, wings pierced through her clothing and opened wide, holding her aloft.
“Well, well, my angel,” Romeo said in a sexy hushed tone as he came closer. “Is it possible that you’re even more alluring? There is something definitely appealing about your angelic nature, Lux… something deviously naughty and primal, something that yearns for release.”
“Nice try, Romeo,” Lux called out. “I’ll admit, you fooled me. You fooled me good, but that’s over. Whatever hold you may have had on me is gone, my dear Succubus.” She looked up to the portal where they’d entered the devil’s playground. “I believe that hold was broken the moment you brought me down into this hellhole.”
“Our ties will never be broken, Lux. I am a part of you, and you are a part of me. You may not realize it now, but we are destined to be together. Together forever.”
Lux laughed. “Not only are you a lowly Succubus, but you’re so fucking full of yourself. Bringing me down here was a mistake, Romeo. Now, prepare to fight.” She glanced at the twins who were recuperating from their first encounter with her.
“You’re alone down here, Lux,” Romeo challenged. “Alone to fight against all of us.”
The twins approached her, their eyes angry and hard.
Unimpressed, Lux clucked her tongue. “You have a feeble army at best,” she said with a chuckle. “Your blond bimbos are nothing more than overgrown bullies.”
With a huff, the blonds charged Lux who simply blew at one then the other, sending them falling back.
Shaking her head in disappointment, Lux looked at Romeo. “And to think you brought them and all the other beautiful beings to the Shadowlight Hunters Academy for nothing.”
“It wasn’t for nothing,” Romeo argued. He snapped his fingers and five beautiful beings came forth and quickly attacked Lux.
One by one, Lux tossed them aside, bloodied and broken. Clapping the dust off her hands, Lux looked at Romeo. “You could save yourself the humiliation of such a sad defeat by letting me go now, Romeo.”
“Never,” he said with a demonic gleam in his eyes.
“We’re going to clean house.” Lux jutted her chin out to him. “And I will be all too happy to wipe the floor of hell with your face.”
Romeo’s glance flickered over her shoulder and she quickly turned to see the Thompson Twins coming at her. With one solid kick to the gut, Lux sent one foolish blond flying into the other sending them both tumbling so far down the portal that their screams faded to nothing just as they fell from view.
“I don’t mind saying, good riddance,” Lux said. She looked at Romeo, ignoring his enigmatic smile and smoldering eyes. “This is precisely what I’ve trained for, Romeo. This is what I’ve been preparing for; to get rid of you. To get rid of the ringleader.”
He reached out to her, his smile warm and his gaze inviting. “You’ll never be rid of me, Lux. The very essence of my being is in your blood. I am a part of you.” He grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her closer.
His attempt was met with a resounding punch that sent his head whipping to the side. After shaking the pain off her knuckles, Lux punched him again and again, each blow landing with bone crushing force.
Romeo backed away and reassessed his opponent. With a conceding nod, he wiped the blood away from his lip and eyed Lux with admiration. “My, how you’ve grown, my star pupil.”
He reached out and grabbed her wrist again, this time pulling her into his arms and holding her tight. “Can’t you feel it?” he whispered. He pushed his erection against her. “Damn, you’re so fucking sexy when you fight. I could lay back and watch you fight all day. There’s something fierce yet graceful about your every move. Something erotic and sensual.”
That annoying pull of sexual attraction weakened her for a mom
ent. His eyes bore through her and his hands traveled down to her lower back, pulling her closer and closer to him.
“Truth is,” he said in his husky voice that promised all the sexual pleasures he had to offer. “Every move you make is sexy; when you eat, when you sleep. Hell, when you breathe you’re sexy.” With a gleam in his eyes, he cocked a brow. “Hmm, maybe you’re a Succubus.”
His lips brushed along her ear and the heated nights she’d spent with him flooded her thoughts. “Remember how my hands thrilled you? Remember what my lips made you feel? Remember my body against yours, my dick finding its way to you, so deep inside you. Your tits fit so perfectly in my hands, and every time I tasted your pussy, you became ecstatic. Do you remember it all, Lux? Do you remember every mind-blowing moment when I fucked you?”
Lux found herself falling into him, the heat of his strong muscular chest filling her with soothing warmth. His fingers raked through her hair, and her eyelids were suddenly incredibly heavy. Her lips parted, anticipating the passionate kiss she’d become so accustomed to.
“I fell for you, Lux,” Romeo whispered. “I should have drained you, but I never did. Though I must admit that with every single sexual encounter between us, I took just a bit, just enough of your essence, so appealing and delicious. Every encounter left you with a little less angelic blood.”
She looked into his eyes, her judgement slightly fogged up by the sexual arousal that was taking over her body. “Is that why I never detected you? Never detected what you really are?”
He chuckled, that super sexy sound that aroused her even more. “You are a wise one. Indeed. By slowly giving you my essence, it clouded your judgement, your ability to see what was right in front of you.”
Kiss me, she wanted to say. Love me. Her body needed his touch and wanted more. Her skin was so accustomed to his touch, so addicted to it. She leaned in, closing her eyes. She could almost taste him.
But just as she puckered up, hungry for his lips and his tongue, she was harshly pulled back and out of the warmth of his arms.
“Hey!” she complained. But when she looked back to see who had ripped her out of Romeo’s passionate embrace, she saw Brax. Instantly, thoughts of Romeo faded away and her heart melted.
“Brax!” she exclaimed as she turned to embrace him. “Oh, Brax. I can’t believe I found you.” She laughed. “Or that you found me, rather.”
“I had a hand in finding you, too.”
Lux turned to see Moore grinning at her.
“If she’s going to get any succubus essence,” Moore said, “it’s going to be from me.” He promptly turned around and punched Romeo in the face, sending him falling back.
Lux looked at her fallen Romeo and any trace of attraction she might have had for him disappeared. She finally and fully saw him for the succubus that he was.
“Moore,” she said, smiling at the handsome man she’d long to see for so long. “You didn’t have to hit him.”
Rubbing his knuckles, he grinned.
“But I’m sure glad you did,” Lux added. “He deserved it.” She couldn’t help but be taken in by Moore’s sensual grin. He was so incredibly handsome and cool, and she wanted to run into his arms.
“You’re looking good, Lux,” Moore said, his gaze traveling slowly over her.
“And look at you,” she said, happy tears filling her eyes. “I’m so happy to see you guys.”
Romeo got back to a vertical stance. “Can’t you see, Lux?” he shouted, but Moore turned and punched him again, this time in the gut. Romeo doubled over. “They need your…”
Moore punched him once more, and blood poured from his nose.
“Come on, Lux,” Brax said. He took her by the hand and turned to lead her out of the portal.
“Don’t be fooled, Lux,” Romeo called out, spitting out blood. “They want your blood. They need your blood.”
Moore kicked him in the gut.
Lux looked at Brax. “Is that true?”
“Your blood can heal them, Lux,” Romeo grunted through his pain.
“Brax?” Lux said.
“We need to get out of here, Lux,” Brax said. “The time we’ve spend down here has been difficult and Moore and I are both weak. Yes. We need fortified blood. If we’re going to make it out of here, we need strong blood.”
“You want us to become human again, don’t you?” Moore said.
“I love you guys so much,” Lux said. “I’d do anything for you. But how will this affect me? I’ve been so weak lately.”
“You’ll be fine,” Moore said. “We only need a little bit of your blood. You won’t even notice it.”
Lux hesitated. As much as she wanted to help them, she didn’t want to compromise her own chances of getting out of there. “I’m already weakened by Romeo’s slow draining of my essence.”
“You’re stronger than ever,” Brax said pointing to her angel wings. “You have the ability to save us, Lux. You and you alone.”
“You still love us, don’t you, Lux?” Moore said. “How can you refuse us this?”
“Save us,” Moore said.
“Yeah, my love,” Brax said. “Save us.”
“Save us!” Moore shouted.
“How can you refuse us?” Brax said.
Lux suddenly turned to Brax and punched him soundly in the chest.
“Hey! What was that for?” Brax said, rubbing is chest. “I thought you were happy to see me. I thought you loved me.”
“I love Brax and you’re just an imposter. Do you really think you can fool me?”
“Hey, but me,” Moore whined. “You know that I’m Moore.”
“No, you’re not!” Lux shouted. “Never! Never would Brax and Moore ask me to do what you’ve asked me. You beasts are pathetic.”
“Lux!”
She turned back to see Asher flying to her, his wings beautiful in pure white. She was thrilled to see him and happy his wings had grown back.
“You have to get out of here,” he shouted.
“Be careful, Asher,” Lux said as Asher came to her side. “They’re not Brax and Moore.”
Asher looked at the two imposters and nodded. “Come on. The portal is closing. The slayers have been fighting brilliantly. They’ve managed to push almost all the beautiful beings into the portal and there are only a few more demons left to deal with. But we need to get out now.”
“But what about Brax and Moore?” Lux said.
“Yeah,” the Brax imposter said. “Don’t leave us here.”
“Not you!” Lux spat. “The real Brax and Moore.”
“Don’t go,” Romeo said, getting to his feet and limping his way to Lux. “I need you.”
Asher turned and punched him in the gut. “Your spell over her is terminated,” he said. “You might have taken advantage of her as your student, but that’s over now.”
“What the hell do you know?” Romeo grunted.
Asher kicked him while he was down. “I’m not through with you. The next time I see you…”
“Never mind that,” Lux said, grabbing Asher. “Let’s get out of here.”
Asher wrapped his arm around Lux and with one forceful flap of his wings, they flew up and out of the portal.
Lux glanced back in time to see Romeo trying to catch up to them just as the portal closed, locking him in.
Chapter 2
“I got her!” Asher called out the moment they emerged from the portal. “Seal it up!” He landed not far from the portal and set Lux down.
The large hole in the ground had closed behind them and John, Dr. Good and Hector rushed to it with their vials of holy water.
“Sic semper erat, et sic semper erit,” Hector muttered in Latin as he sprinkled the holy water on the ground.
“Nemo contra Deum nisi Deum ipse,” John said over and over again.
Sully and Lucas came to the closed portal with their vials of holy water and immediately took up the prayers.
“Pacem in terris,” Sully said. “Pacem in terris.”<

Lux barely recognized them. She’d never seen them so serious and solemn. She was particularly surprised by Sully. Usually so playful, almost immature, he clearly took his role as slayer seriously and he was just as knowledgeable as the senior slayers.
Beyond them, Lux saw many of the students from the Academy fighting off the remaining demons. Like the seasoned slayers they were, they fought valiantly, taking on a demon, and destroying it before moving on to the next one.
Lux looked on with admiration. They were just as experienced as she was. Clearly they were not new to slaying. Even before attending the Academy, they had probably slain hundreds of demons just like she had.
It made her lack of judgment with regards to Romeo and the other beautiful beings all the more disturbing. It hadn’t taken much for Romeo to distract her from her goal. A quick flirt at the nightclub, a passionate kiss and the pretense of tutoring her after class.
And she’d fallen for it; all of it. She had never even stopped to question his motives. Like a real novice, like an innocent virgin, she’d batted her eyes, smiled demurely and had fallen into bed with him again and again.
Damn, she thought. If she’d been wiser, perhaps a little more experienced with men, she would have seen through him. She could have simply gone to school to learn what she needed to learn and all would be right with the world.
Instead, those students were out there fighting those last demons while many more students made their way back to John, Hector and Dr. Good with injuries.
“This is all my fault,” she muttered.
Asher squeezed her shoulder as he pulled her to him. “Don’t be ridiculous. It was just a matter of time before the portal opened.”
Dr. Good waved the students in closer and the last three students who’d slain the last three demons joined them.
“My glorious slayers! My brave and valiant warriors! I want to thank each and every one of you.” Dr. Good said. “This has truly been an incredible battle.”
