  And very observant. His hands stayed on the top of my hips as he pulled back to look directly into my eyes. “It’s that one caller you always get, isn’t it? Well, the one you used to get when you first got started. I’m not privy to any details, but you seem to talk to this one caller with the same phone number for a long time.” The same sad look came over Derek’s eyes. “You two must have bonded for him or her to call all the time. Usually it’s just a couple of calls and that’s it, but with that one, it seemed you have become close.”

  “Derek,” I said, sighing. I didn’t want to talk to him about “Daggers” or Collins, but in a way, I wanted to assure him everything was fine with that caller. “Yes, I did have a recurring caller for a while in the beginning, and it was something that really helped me feel more connected to Sawyer House. I should hope people call Sawyer House because they do feel that level of comfort and trust calling us so…”

  “Hey, I get it,” Derek said. “No big deal. I just noticed, that’s all, and if you were able to help him or her with their issue after all, then that’s wonderful. But if it’s because they’re calling thinking they can establish a relationship with you outside of Sawyer House, then that’s not something Sawyer House would
encourage. Or if it’s something where he is calling because he really keeps having recurring issues, and it’s not solved, then his case needs to be escalated to Gail or me or one of the head counselors.”

  “Derek,” I smiled, looking into his eyes. “It’s okay. He stopped calling months ago.”

  Derek’s brown eyes searched my face briefly as I blushed thinking about how I was trying to cover up the fact we’re still talking about Collins, and said, “Good, because the thought of someone who is disturbed, darkly disturbed calling you and flirting with you, thinking he’s got a chance with you just because you’re friendly and beautiful…”

  I snorted. “Gah, beautiful, please. How could they tell that from a phone call?”

  Derek smiled then, his eyes warmly gazing into mine. “Guys could tell, Sam, when a girl is beautiful. If she has a warm, sweet, and sexy voice like yours…they can imagine you being just as beautiful as your voice. It’s enough to keep a guy on the line and calling back.”

  “Derek, come on…”

  “You may not know it, Sam, but you attract guys all the time, even on the phone. I know you’re with Collins right now, but I’m still your friend, and I want to protect you from perverts out there…like that kid who came in wanting to be a peer counselor…”

  “Billy…I know,” I said with disgust, remembering how a teen boy came in to be trained as peer counselor only to play a cruel prank on me, pretending to be my childhood tormentor Billy. All that changed, though when I found out who he really was later on.

  “Talking of which…” Derek said. “I know how angry we both were with him when he pulled that prank, but after talking to Gail about it, she said that she knew him, and it was a shame he turned out to be a prankster, but if he was to step back here again, be very apologetic to you, then we can try him out as a peer counselor.”

  My mouth dropped. “Really?”

  Derek shot me an apprehensive look. “I know. I couldn’t believe it, too.”

  “I mean, the real Billy is in jail so I’m not worried about that, but…I’m not sure if it’s a good idea.”

  “Me neither,” Derek said.

  “So why bring it up? I don’t even think he will have any interest in this kind of stuff.”

  “Because,” Derek said. “I think he might. Gail told me this morning to expect him to show up this week.”

  I was about to text Collins about that, when I looked down and saw that a text had come through from Collins.

  CollinsM: Sorry I couldn’t spend the day with you as promised. I’m still savoring the taste of you from this morning.

  I blushed remembering how it felt to wake up with Collins giving me a thorough tongue bath, as though the night before wasn’t enough.

  I texted back: You more than made up for it already.

  CollinsM: Can’t wait to see you again to have a repeat performance soon.

  SamS: I have to be at Sawyer House.

  CollinsM: You need a break. I have the person in mind to help relieve you of your counselorly duties. I’ll let Gail know.

  SamS: No need. I’m fine, and we’re understaffed. All volunteers.

  CollinsM: All the better. I need you to be there for me when I need you. Can’t have you working your ass off there when all I want is to grab it and…

  SamS: Collins! I’m at work!

  CollinsM: A place which I funded…

  SamS: Incorrigible.

  CollinsM: Only when it comes to getting what I want, and when I want it. You should know that by now, Sam. When it comes to you, I’m insatiable. There are no boundaries.

  I turned around, and nearly gasped with surprise. Of all the bad timing in the world. Here I was in Derek’s arms, with him kissing the top of my head, while there in the hallway standing with Gail, was my hot billionaire boyfriend who gave me one of my most amazing nights of my life last night and this morning and Tate, his younger half-brother, who was the very prankster Derek and I had just been talking about.

  “Are we interrupting something?” Collins’ steely velvety voice asked, his blue eyes staring hard at Derek’s hands on my waist, which Derek quickly removed.

  “No, nothing,” I said, looking straight into Collins’ eyes. “Derek was just welcoming me back to Sawyer House. After all, I haven’t been back for a few days since the incidence with…” I glanced over at Tate… “Billy.”

  Gail stepped over to Derek and patted his shoulders. “We’re all glad Sam is well and fully recovered.” She smiled at me, a warm smile that softened the dark harsh blunt hairstyle she had. “Including Tate, here.” She gestured over at the tall, muscular teen boy with long blonde hair covering one half of his face, which had piercings over his nose and lips. As he was dressed last time I saw him, he was wearing a thin white t-shirt with black paint splashed on it with a big A for anarchy, loose black pants, and black converse.

  Seeing Tate stand side-by-side next to Collins made me gasp. The same icy blue eyes stared out at me, two pairs, one filled with fury, the other filled with mirth. Same strong jawline, full lips, and blonde hair, styled differently.

  It was as though I was seeing Collins as he was now – a successful young billionaire mogul, and the way he was when he was a lost teen from a broken home living on the streets. My heart went out to Collins and at that moment, Tate.

  “Hi, Sam,” Tate said, with a slight wave of his hand. He shuffled his feet. “Bet you’d never thought I’d turn up here again.”

  “Hi Tate,” I said going up to him and giving him a hug. I let go quickly, but felt his hand lingered on my back. I couldn’t help but smile inwardly. Like his big brother, Tate had a certain charm, and definitely a way with women.

  It wasn’t missed on Collins, too, who shot Tate a look that bordered on jealousy. Collins looked from Tate to me and then back to Derek, whom he seemed to have the most animosity towards.

  I broke the ice before Gail spoke. “So, Collins and Tate, what are you both doing here at the same time? Holding a family reunion at Sawyer House?”

  “Family?” Derek’s eyes widened with surprise.

  I turned to Derek. “Derek…this is Tate, Tate, this is Derek. You’ve met already before under different circumstances, but now here we are… Derek, Tate is Collins’ half-brother, and I know what he did here last time was…”

  “Unexcusable,” Tate interjected. “Downright rude and unforgivable…”

  “But…he’s turned a new leaf, hasn’t he?” I asked Tate, but looked over at Collins and Gail.

  What was he doing here? Did Collins and Gail have some plans for him?

  “It was my idea,” Tate said. “I really want to make it up to you guys. I knew I blew the chance I had before about being a peer counselor for teens, and I made a joke out of it, but I feel horrible, and maybe I can help by volunteering a few hours a week. I mean, I’m not perfect, but at least I’m coming from somewhere that might help. And I am truly sorry for making a joke out of everything you do here.”

  Gail looked over at me. “Sam, I already discussed the possibility of having Tate here with Derek, but it’s up to you since you were the one whom Tate had pulled a prank on. No need to make a decision now, but you can tell me what you think in my office.” She looked over at Collins and Tate. “But since Collins and Tate
are brothers...”

  I glanced at Collins, who seemed to have calmed down a little from being angry at seeing Derek having his arms wrapped around me. “Gail, I think it’s probably best to have a conversation with you, Collins and Tate in your office right now,” I said.

  Gail nodded. “Derek, hold down the fort while we’re in meeting.”

  “Sure,” Derek said, looking a little flustered.

  “And while you’re at it,” Collins said, walking up close to Derek. “How about keeping your hands off of my girlfriend?”

  Collins stared hard into Derek’s eyes and walked over to me, placing his arm around the back of my shoulders while we walk down the hallway to Gail’s office. Somewhere between the call room and Gail’s office, right in front of Derek’s eyes, watching us walk away, Collins’ hands found its way from my shoulder down to my ass which he was cupping possessively. I couldn’t help sneak a peek over at Collins then, and all I saw was this wicked smile on his face as his eyes stared straight ahead.

  He leaned over to whisper to me, “After last night, no one but me will be owning your ass. I’m more intimately acquainted with you there than you probably are.” He glanced over at me, and I saw his eyes burning with desire as he looked down at my lips, my breasts and my crotch. “Am I right?”

  Tate sat next to Collins and I in front of Gail’s desk at Sawyer House, looking uncomfortable for the first time since I’ve seen him walked in with Collins.
